I Think I Got This (Again)

Well, it’s been awhile since I blogged on “Walking to 199”.  I had gone off the wonderful diet I was on, because I realized I could never live on it. As my cousin John says, “All diets work……if you stay on them”.

I did the “Fast Metabolism Diet” and it was remarkable. However, I couldn’t afford the expense of some of the foods they wanted you to buy. Also, I can’t live the rest of my life that way. I bought a book by a fat preacher (TD Jakes) who is fat again, to see how he lost 100 pounds. He had a personal chef and trainer. Not realistic.

I still belong to Planet Fitness, and that’s cool as a backup. But I’ve found out what works for me. It’s amazing. It’s called diet and exercise. And by “diet”, I don’t mean I “drink” a meal, eat only veggies, count carbs and/or calories, or eat rice cakes and air puffs. That’s cool if people can do that, but I can’t imagine me doing that the rest of my life. I don’t want to lose weight, but I do want to change my lifestyle.

When I went to the doctor in March of 2015, I had ballooned back up to 279. I found out that my cholesterol was over 300 and the A1C test was over 300.  I knew that I would be in much danger health wise if this continued.

Bonnie and I began walking in Buhl Park. We started in June (I was 277 on June 1). We walk about 4-5 times a week, and we’ve fallen in love with it, and the beautiful Park. We’ve gotten to know a lot of other walkers, all ages, shapes , and sizes, and their dogs.

I’ve cut down on sweets (refuse to eliminate them) and increased our walking from 2 miles a day to 4 miles a day. As of yesterday, after about 16 weeks, I’ve lost 16 pounds. My A1C went from 310 to 169, my cholesterol 360 to 180. My doctor tells me this is the best way to lose weight and keep doing what I’m doing.

The weather is cooling off, fall is here, and we’ve gotten attire to change with the weather. Planet Fitness is our backup if things get nasty outside.

So for me, diet and exercise is the answer. Again, not crazy fad diet, but watching the food intake. Smart snacking (nuts and fruits are wonderful), and truly, I am walking to 199.

So that’s it in a nutshell (not a chocolate covered nutshell, although I permit myself to enjoy those. I will keep you posted. Thanks for tagging along, send ideas, encouragement, suggestions, whatever.
